On October 4, 2025, the Open Science Framework (OSF) will launch a refreshed design that makes the platform easier to navigate and use. The update modernizes the interface and improves performance, while preserving the familiar workflows that users are accustomed to. All OSF projects, registrations, and preprints will remain accessible after the new interface launches.
Why the Update?
Researchers across the OSF community have expressed a need for a more intuitive, modern, and streamlined user experience.
The new design responds to that feedback, while also introducing a technical upgrade to the OSF platform. This foundation will enable the development team to release improvements more efficiently and prepare for more comprehensive updates in the future.

This design refresh reflects COS’s ongoing commitment to evolving OSF in collaboration with our user community. Incorporating user feedback, such as reintroducing file access on project overview pages, ensures that OSF continues to meet the evolving needs of researchers, while laying the groundwork for future enhancements.

What to Expect
This refresh will not affect logins or core workflows such as projects, registrations, or preprints.
Downtime: OSF will be unavailable on October 4 from 9 a.m. to ~5 p.m. ET while the update is deployed.
Draft content: Draft wiki edits, preprints, or project updates should be saved before the scheduled downtime, as in-progress content may not carry over. Saved and published content will remain unaffected.
