The conference focused on the study of science, how it is conducted, and how it can be improved. As a global in-person gathering to connect the study of science across disciplines, methodologies, and regions, Metascience 2023 united communities to share ideas, evidence, and foster a culture of continuous experimentation and improvement. Metascience 2023 followed the inaugural Metascience 2019 Symposium held at Stanford University and Metascience 2021 Conference, a virtual conference. The partnering organizations for Metascience 2023 were the Center for Open Science (COS), the Association for Interdisciplinary Meta-Research and Open Science (AIMOS), and the Research on Research Institute (RoRI) .
