Improving research works best when efforts are coordinated, not fragmented. The Metascience Alliance is a coalition for coordination and collaboration, connecting stakeholders, identifying and advancing shared priorities, and accelerating collective progress. Since we first introduced the Metascience Alliance at the 2025 Metascience Conference, 39 organizations have signed the Letter of Intent—a clear sign of readiness to advance this vision.
Since the launch earlier this year, we’ve been working to put the essentials in place—shared coordination, clear roles, and a straightforward route to take an idea into action—so the coalition can start engaging and iterating on how best to accelerate progress.
We’re pleased to share that Tom van Drimmelen has started as the coordinator of the Metascience Alliance. His prior work focuses on responsible conduct of research, with a particular emphasis on researcher discretion. Tom works for the Zentrum für Konstruktive Erziehungswissenschaft (ZKE) at Kiel University. During the Alliance’s piloting phase, the ZKE will provide capacity building for coordination, and Tom will work with COS to support outward communication and day-to-day coordination.
Soon, we will be piloting some of the many ideas generated at the 2025 Metascience Conference. This is a first pass at how the Metascience Alliance can steward ideas into actionable activities and we will continue to iterate on the process, from ideation to implementation, while continuing gathering feedback.
We’re looking forward to sharing more soon.
